Spoken Word Joy in Blackness: An Online Panel Discussion

20/10/2021 - 20/10/2021

“Black joy is an act of resistance” (The Black Joy Project)

For this online event, Black Gold Arts Festival brings together a panel of speakers from the arts, journalism, and psychology to explore Black joy. Why is it so important to talk about, see, and celebrate Black joy? How do we make more space for it?

This event follows on from the Black Gold keynote speech by Kleaver Cruz of The Black Joy Project. It’s a collaboration with the team behind An Anthology of Joy, a community exhibition of small moments of joy that’s open at Contact from 8-23 October.

A panel of women and non-binary speakers from Manchester and the UK will meet online for an in-depth discussion of what joy means to Black people, how we find it and nourish it.

The artwork for this event is by Tina Ramos Ekongo, from her black women on cardboard series. Tina contributed to An Anthology of Joy, and she’ll be joining the panel to discuss her work further. Our full speaker line-up will be announced soon!
