Theatre HIGHRISE THEATRE – LIL.MISS.LADY

23/10/2020 - 23/10/2020

Lil.Miss.Lady takes audiences on a journey through the sounds and visuals of UK bass music culture.

Following a rowdy sell out show at The Roundhouse and a packed out tent at Latitude festival, Lil.Miss.Lady goes digital.

Part grime rave, part drama, Lil.Miss.Lady takes audiences on a journey through the sounds and visuals of UK bass music culture. Reminiscing through Jungle, UK Garage, Sub-Low, Funky House, Dubstep and Grime; finding out what it means to be a female navigating her way through such a male dominated ‘sport’.

Inspired by a series of interviews with influential women in the Grime scene including Lady Stush, Lioness, Queenie, and Baby Blue, Lil.Miss.Lady celebrates Grime, its women and holds a bass fuelled microscope over Britain’s biggest sub-culture since Punk Rock in the 80s. The show feature original music by Lady Lykez and Dominic Garfield mixed live by the ferocious DJ Kaylee Kay (Eskimo Dance, Rinse FM BBC, 1XTRA)

This performance is part of Black Gold Arts Festival 2020.

START TIME: 8PM

ABOUT HIGHRISE THEATRE

HighRise are a theatre collective who seek to spark conversation and build bridges between forgotten communities by representing the rhythm of the streets. Our core aim is to use inner-city memories, culture and music to give the unheard a voice through theatre.

As well as creating acclaimed shows and experiences, we have a foot in several communities across London, where our work with and for disaffected young people has bred positivity, inclusivity and creativity.

Whether working directly in communities or working alongside nationwide charities/groups to plan and deliver workshops, HighRise’s productions are informed by an ongoing, active research with these young people. The company has a working cycle of listening and creating. We listen to the young people we work with and use what we learn to create of groundbreaking Theatre.

Our style is energetic, physical, innovative, poetic and colloquial – using Hip Hop & Grime music on top of extreme play as a vehicle to tell honest stories from multicultural backgrounds.

"SO. MUCH. FUN! I cannot recommend this show enough. Pay close attention to HighRise, they are the future that theatre deserves." – Exuent Magazine
