Spoken Word Fiercely, You Bloomed: Launch with Kleaver Cruz
19/10/2021 - 19/10/2021
Join us online for Black Gold Arts Festival 2021’s opening event!‘Forgotten outside
Surprise burst of green of life
There soaked in bucket The wind blew fiercely, you bloomed
freed from your cages’
We are joined by keynote speaker Kleaver Kruz to explore topics of Black Joy. Particularly in relation to Kleaver’s work on The Black Joy Project in the United States and reflect on the spaces where this joy exists.
This keynote speech is followed by a panel discussion, speakers TBC, and a screening of Chanje Kunde’s Plant Fetish. Plant Fetish is written and performed by Chanje Kunda, re-imagined for camera by film director Juliet Ellis. The film is a dark satirical comedy. A black woman living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder discovered that plants reduce stress. Think ‘After life’ by Ricky Gervais meets Love Island, via Gardeners’ World.
Black Gold Arts and Contact have come together during Black History Month to deliver a line-up of outstanding Black-led art, performance and film, all supported and commissioned by the two organisations. Keep your eyes peeled for additional events.
